Common trade terms you must know

EXW = Ex Works, also known as factory price.

FOB = Free On Board, which means the seller delivers the goods on board the vessel at the specified port of shipment, also known as the “shipping point price.”.

CIF = Cost, Insurance, and Freight, which equals FOB plus insurance and freight costs.(Suitable for sea transportation)

CPT is the abbreviation of cost paid to…, which means the price refers to the price at the destination. CIF and CPT are basically the same, the main difference is that CIF is only applicable to sea transportation, while CPT can be applied to any mode of transportation.

CNY = RMB = Chinese Yuan Renminbi.

USD = US Dollar.

HS Code is the abbreviation for “Harmonized Commodity Description and Coding System,” which is used to identify the types and categories of import and export goods. It consists of a 6-digit code.
